SLO for NYE11

Matt and I just got home from another amazing college roommate reunion. And this time it was in SLO. Thank goodness. We ate the whole time (as usual). Seriously, this is what the girls did on Saturday:

Wake up and snuggle til 1:00
Eventually shower
Head downtown and eat the following:

Jamba Juice
Mondeo's wraps
Sweet Potato french fries
Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
Turkish Delight Hipster Coffee Shop tea
NOVO everything
Yogurt Creations

(3 huge baskets of fries is sufficient for 10 people, right?)

Did I forget anything ladies? Probably. We were straight MOUTHS the entire trip.

But really, eating is just an excuse for all of us to sit down and talk straight to the heart. It was great to see old friends face to face again and catch up on dreams, both old and new.

Here's to Buchon!

Culinary Couv and Sideboard

So, oops. I wrote this entry in JULY and saved it, but never published it. No offense Vanessa. I think I was on a roll and wanted to save it for a time I was less inclined to write. Like recently. Also I keep losing and refinding my camera. But, here is the long lost post. Very overdue. :)

Two of my most favorite things. With French Toast on top. French Toast with bananas and maple whipped cream. Amen.

One of my besties Vanessa took me out to brunch (it sounds fancier than breakfast) to my FAV spot. Sideboard. It tricks me and makes me think that maybe I still live in SLO. If only.

She got me these beautiful purple sweet peas from Farmer's Market. And apparently we learned that morning that that specific color of sweet pea are the most fragrant. Awesome.

And since she is a Culinary Goddess, 'scuse me, Culinary Couv, I am going to choose send you to her gourmet blog instead of embarrassing myself and writing about our lovely time at the lovely location with lovely food.

Thanks friend!

Wicked? Just kidding!

Last week I got an out of the blue voicemail from our pastor's wife asking me to please call her back as soon as possible. Click. I panicked. Who is in the hospital? Is everyone OK?

Nope. She wanted to know if I would like to join her in the city the following week with another friend or two to enter our names into a lottery to get Matinee tickets to see Wicked. Um. Hi. YES.

So yesterday the two of us, my mom, and a new friend set off on BART on our adventure. We were all so excited and feeling lucky. We were laughing and chatting all the way to the Orpheum Theater were we discovered that there was NO performance that day. What?!

So after crying our eyes out...just kidding...after a couple sighs we headed down Market to the huge Macy's to have lunch at the Cheesecake Factory on top. And we ended up having quite the nice day. I mean, Tiramisu cheesecake and a raspberry colored tunic from Anthropologie (on mega sale) can only mean one thing. Awesomeness.

Quarter of a Century Club

I had an amazing birthday last week. On National Kathleen's Day thankyouverymuch. And I was glad to see that at least one person got it right. My baby brother. He is a genius. Check out the card/wrap job. Functional, with a little beautification. Plus the said card mentioning the specific date.

Yes, each and every one of the other four people in my family have birthdays that fall on a Holiday. Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Halloween, and Thanksgiving (OK, this one is only every 7 years, but STILL).

In honor of the day, Matt and I went camping. Mystery camping. And mystery hike. It was all very exciting and turned out to be in Sunol. Rowdy gave me one of the best presents by actually playing and swimming in the creek. She has been such a sissy and it breaks my heart, but she was a CHAMP last week chasing sticks.

We roasted hot dogs, marshmallows, and bacon during our one night stay. And we fell asleep looking up at the silhouettes of the trees, watching the embers of our campfire burn out, and listening to the nearby creek. PERFECT!

That night we had another birthday celebration at my parent's house. It was so fun! My mom even decorated the patio with streamers and fun bday tablecloths. And my dad made his famous chicken (Daddy's Famous Chicken to be exact). And Matt made this beautiful watermelon bowl that held the fruit salad.

And I didn't take any pictures because I was tired of messing up the moment to take a picture. So you don't get to see any evidence. But I remember it and it was lovely.

Pops Concert

On Thursday I was lucky enough to get a front row seat at my little bro's choir concert. And since this is Pops, it means not just singing, but also DANCING! So basically it is like watching a live version of Glee. One of my fav shows.

So the first couple classes were not really like Glee at all since the poor kids were SO not into dancing...but of course my baby brother is in the top notch group so his performance was AMAZING! His class did Queen...so it's true. They rocked us. (Is that a funny joke?)

Kyle and a couple girls from youth group. How much do you LOVE their 80's grunge outfits? *Sidenote: Kyle ripped a gigantic hole in his pants because of his awesome dance moves, so now he can sympathize with SpongeBob.*

Sara, me, and Melanie. I would be an emotionally sitting duck without these girls as support. And of course my besties from college. More on those crazy kids later.
